Where Will You Go Camping?

Once you’ve decided to enter the fun of the camping world the only other main decision to be made is where to go. There is plenty of choice. Wildlife parks are a great and safe way to see a lot of animals that you may never see otherwise. Even in the wild, some animals are so shy and secretive that they stay well away from any sound or scent of humans. In wildlife parks, these animals are kept in areas that are similar to their natural habitat, but visitors are mostly able to drive through and see them close up. Campsite areas are located in a safe spot, usually with access to water and amenities.

There are many different national parks that you can choose either by location or type. From mountain climbing, swimming, and horse riding to cycling, hunting and fishing, all tastes are catered for at national parks. They have educational facilities for children too. The topics vary from endangered species to historical and more.

If water is your thing, national parks that cater for boating, fishing, white-water rafting and a host of other water activities, can be found. Want to see a volcano or geyser? No problem – national parks near them abound. But what if you don’t want to go to a national park? You may be content to head off into the wilderness with just the family for company.

If this is the case, be sure to take plenty of maps of the area, and a compass – or two, in case one gets broken. You may have to depend on yourself for water, so take plenty along. Talk to locals or the local ranger before you go, to find out whether streams are likely to flood, or bushfires might be imminent. You won’t enjoy your camping trip if you have to be rescued by paramedics.

The seaside is a great place to go camping. Camping grounds are usually abundant and the children will play contentedly in the sand and water all day long. Amenities, including showers and kiosks, are usually close by so if you’ve forgotten the sunscreen it’s not the end of the world. Be sure there are no dangerous currents to get caught in, though.

Another option is to travel. This will give you a variety of different locations to try out. You can start off in a country village, stop by a lake or river, explore the mountains for a few days and end up at the beach. Make sure you stop at each place for at least a few days so the children will be happy to get in the car and travel again.
