Why scrapbooking is so popular today

Scrapbooking has certainly taken the world by storm and one reason for this is that people always want to keep their memories in some visible form so that they may be enjoyed by future generations. It is a way of becoming known to those whom you will never know. Added to this the creativity and challenge involved and you will soon realise why scrapbooking is so popular.

Technology has brought to life what used to be a rather boring task. There are color photographs that are easy and cheap to obtain with digital cameras, where once there was only black and white, or sepia. They used to be expensive and rare, with people having to wait until the photographer was available and then wait for ages until he took the photo. No wonder their expressions were anything but happy.

These days we can take photos that would once have been frowned on. Children or babies in the bath would never have been the subjects of photographs once upon a time. Today’s carefree and casual attitudes have improved the variety and quality of photos so much that people find it a joy to keep the records.

Not only has technology improved our photos, but it also given us fast and easy access to many scrapbooking supplies over the Internet. So now if we can’t buy what we need at the local store, we can get it with a few clicks of our mouse. There is a bigger variety of fun, colourful icons and knick-knacks to be used in the making of our scrapbooks. Stickers have dispensed with the use of messy glues, unless we want to use it. If we do, glue comes in a variety of types specially made for fabrics or paper. It is also dispensed more easily than in days gone by.

There are many different types of scissors to give attractive edgings now. This would once have been a tedious chore to do. Once we would have had to carefully measure and draw fancy lines, then manipulate straight-edged scissors to cut it. Now we can get many wonderful effects with a few quick snips.

And don’t forget that with the age of television, many people forgot about their creativity. They simply watched TV for entertainment. But now that scrapbooking has arrived on the scene, they suddenly realize what a lot of creative fun they have been missing out on. There is nothing like a day spent with scissors, paper and colourful pictures to satisfy the creativity that resides in us all.
