But wait! Before you start scribbling out your life story, choose exactly what you are going to write about. Don’t forget your theme and get sidetracked into topics that have nothing to do with it. It might help you to collect your thoughts on a certain topic and arrange them into some sort of order. Typing them into a computer can be helpful, because if you’ve found you have digressed, it’s easy to delete that part and start again. It’s also easy to rearrange facts that are out of chronological order. You might have forgotten an incident that you want to include once it springs into your memory again. A computer will make this an easy task.
Even though you’ve decided to make journaling the major component of your scrapbook, you can still decorate it to match the theme of your story. You might like to insert relevant clip art into your text for a nice touch. Photos can also be inserted into the text, or printed off separately if desired. Then you would be able to rearrange them outside the text boxes.
Humor will be much appreciated in the telling of a tale. Even if the event you are writing about was not really humorous, your slant or angle on it could be. You may not want to write down your most private thoughts and feelings though, because many people will read it. And don’t write nasty things about others either, or you could find yourself in a whole lot of trouble.
Since there will be lots of text in your scrapbook, it is best not to write on the actual page, but do a printout or write on another sheet of paper and glue it in. If handwriting is your choice, you have the option of using paper that is lightly ruled into lines for a neat look. It would look great cut into a scroll shape and glued onto a plain or patterned backing. Use smaller snapshots so they don’t overwhelm your text.
