There are things that we can do in our lives to lower our risk of getting breast cancer. These things may not only help to lower your risk of breast cancer but can also improve your overall health at the same time. The first thing to do would be to stop smoking if you are a smoker. Smoking is a nasty habit that is hard to break. There are many resources out there to help you to quit smoking. Try anything you can that you think may help you to quit for good. Smoking has been known to increase the risk of getting breast cancer along with the other diseases that smoking is associated with. So if you smoke do everything you can to quit.

Exercising more often can also lower the risk of getting breast cancer. A few extra hours of exercising each week can lower your risk of developing breast cancer. Women that have a weight problem or are overweight can have an increased risk of developing this disease, so you should try and maintain a healthy weight at all times if possible. Being on a low fat diet and exercising regularly can help you to stay at a healthy weight lowering your risk of getting breast cancer. Limiting alcohol use is also a way to lower your risk of breast cancer. The more alcohol that you drink each day will make your risk higher for developing breast cancer. Trying to abstain from drinking alcohol is your best bet to lower your risk of breast cancer.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet can help you to maintain a healthy weight and is also good for your health. When your body is healthier and your weight is good this can also lower your risk of getting breast cancer. Reduce the stress in your life by relaxing as much as possible. This can strengthen your immune system making it easier to fight certain diseases including breast cancer. So make some time each day for yourself to relax and relieve some of the stress from your life.

Losing Weight Safely

People who want to lose weight commonly, and first of all, think about reducing the amount of food they eat. This may be quite a solution but not exactly the best there is. In fact, depending on the amount you reduce in your food intake, it may even be dangerous to one’s health. So how does one lose weight effectively and safely? Here are some points one should consider when trying to lose weight:

Beware of the Crash Diets

Most people think that trimming down the calories can alone shed off their unwanted excess. Probably this is because of the fad there is in advertising about low-calorie food products and beverages. What people don’t know is that this could be dangerous because when they decrease their calorie intake way to below the required levels, the body begins to digest the fats. Sounds good but it doesn’t actually. Burning fat requires a lot of energy. Since there is not much energy in the body to facilitate metabolism of fat, it will run at a very slow pace resulting to fatigue, illness and weak immune system.

Low-calorie diet is also compensated for by the body by burning muscle. People on this type of diet who revert back to their old eating habits end up gaining back some, if not all the weight they have shed off. This would consist mainly of fats. And since fats have more volume per mass than muscle, they end up having the same weight as before but more bulkier. In losing weight, one should keep in mind that they should lose excess body fats only.

However, one can try out eating small meals at more frequent intervals. This way the body will not think that it is being starved and will not store food as fat.

Eat Properly

One may have considered junking the crash diet option but he should also not forget to watch what he is eating. Variety must always be considered so that one may be able to get the necessary nutrients from his diet.It is also healthier to eat food which are roasted, steamed or broiled rather than fried. It is also important to include a lot of fiber in the diet. Frequent rehydration is also necessary.

Pump Up lean Muscle Mass

Muscles burn calories when they work; they even do so at rest. Unlike fats which just lie around, bulge around the pants and dangle beneath the sleeves, muscles burn calories all-day round. With this fact, one can start weight loss by increasing muscle mass. The more muscles, the less fat will be left. This is attainable starting with working out with resistance exercises.

Engaging in Aerobics

Aerobics are not only good for the heart by increasing cardio-vascular endurance. Aerobics also help in increasing lean muscle mass while simultaneously decreasing excess body fat. Aside from these, aerobics make the metebolic process more efficient and its rate high, even after a long while. Imagine burning fat efficiently while driving along the freeway or even while watching television.

Extra “Push”

Some people believe that smoking and caffeine can actually help in losing weight. This can perhaps be true; however, they do the body more harm than good because of their side-effects. For that extra “push”, one can try out taking food supplements. Afterall, 95% of these products out in the market actually does good.

On Taking Diet Pills

Over-the-counter diet pills affect the amount of weight one loses as well as how long one keeps that amount of weight off. However, one must be wary of the side-effects of these diet pills. As such, one must faithfully follow the instructions provided for in the packaging. It is also prudent to consult the physician anyway before trying out these drugs and also to find out which type would be best for the individual.

Losing weight does not have to mean sacrifice and suffering. It actually means opening up to a more full and healthy life where one may not have to feel bad about himself having to look the way he does or not being able to do what he wants to do. Losing weight might entail a little adjustments plus the discomforts, but as the old saying goes, “no pain, no gain.” Besides fat, what has one got to lose anyway?

Weight loss

There is a great benefit acquired from losing weight.  Though losing weight is not easy,  the long term effects brought by it would probably be of help to anyone considering to shed those unwanted and unhealthy pounds.

The following are a few of the remarkable advantages from losing those excess weight.

Weight loss prevents high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke

That is a three in one benefit from losing weight.  It is a fact that heart disease and stroke are one of the primary reasons for disability and death in both men and women in the US.  People who are overweight have a higher risk to have high levels of cholesterol in their blood stream as well as triglycerides (also known as blood fat).

Angina, one type of heart disease, could cause chest pains as well as a decrease in the oxygen pumped to the heart.

Sudden death also occurs from heart disease and stroke, and usually this strikes with very little warning, signs and   symptoms.

It is a fact that by decreasing your weight by a mere five to ten percent, this could positively decrease the chances of you having or developing heart disease or a stroke.  Plus, how your heart functions would also improve as well as your blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride count will decrease.

Weight loss prevents type 2 diabetes

Diabetes puts in jeopardy one’s life as well as how one leads his or her life because of the complications that result from having it.  Both types of diabetes, type one and type two are linked with being overweight.  To those who already have diabetes, regular exercise and losing weight could help in controlling your blood sugar levels as well as the medication you may be currently taking.  Increase your physical activity.  You could simply walk, jog or dance.  It helps get those blood streams moving as well as lose those unnecessary pounds.

Weight loss helps reduce your risk for cancer

Being overweight is linked with a number of kinds of cancer.  Specially for women, the common types of cancer that is associated with being overweight include cancer of the uterus, gallbladder, ovary, breast, and colon.  This is not meant to scare you, this is only to keep you informed.  Men are at risk too from developing cancer if they are overweight.  These include  cancer of the colon, prostate and rectum.  Extra weight, a diet high in fat and cholesterol should as much as possible be avoided.

Weight loss reduces sleep apnea

Or it could eliminate it all together.  Sleep apnea is a condition wherein one could temporarily stop breathing for a brief period and then would continue to snore heavily.  Sleep apnea could cause drowsiness or sleepiness during the day and – because of being overweight – could result in heart failure.  Shedding those excess pounds could help in eliminating this problem.

Weight loss reduces the pain of osteoarthritis

When one weighs heavily, the joints of  his or her knees, hips and lower back would have to exert double – if not triple – effort to carry him or her through out his / her waking, walking and moving life.  This could cause tension and stress on these joints.  Weight loss decreases the load these joints carry thus decreasing – if not eliminating – the pain of one who has osteoarthritis.

Why Detox?

For most of my life I considered myself fairly healthy. I was not overweight, very slim infact. I usually ate two to three meals per day, not a lot of junky type foods, so I thought. I was about to learn the hard way that my life style and eating habits were not healthy at all.

My diet was like most of North Americas diet, a lot of processed food, soda, drinks, not real juice but man made sugary drinks, fast food and lots of fat! I also smoked 2 packs a day of menthol cigarettes. I also became less active as time went on.

I considered my lifestyle and eating habits perfectly normal. This is how I observed most people living their life. What I did not realize was all the dyes, preservatives and hydrogenated oils I was consuming, not to mention exhaust fumes, solvents, chemicals pesticides and heavy metals in our environment.

We spray our homes with chemicals to kill off nasty little critters. We walk outside on the grass that has just been sprayed with more chemicals. We put chlorine in our pools and we can’t go outside at any time without being exposed to the exhaust fumes from cars, planes etc.

Some of our food supply is deficient in nutrients. We do not eat the way our grandparents and great grandparents ate. Their food was richer in nutrients. We, over a long period of time have depleted our soil and the constant deluge of chemicals used to obtain a larger yield of crops is what gets in our system.

What does this all mean? We live in a highly toxic environment!

There are various types of detox methods that help your body rid itself of its toxic overload.

Colon cleansing is one of them! The majority of people have some difficulty with their colon, constipation being a one of the big ones. Colon cleansing can be done naturally with eating foods high in fiber or taking fiber supplements. A diet that includes vegetables and fruits such as raspberries or blueberries are a great source of fiber. In fact, 1 cup of these fruits has as much fiber as eating 10 bran muffins. Imagine the carb count of 10 bran muffins! It is also a must that you consume a lot of water. This helps hydrate and nourish your body and flush toxins and fecal matter out of your system.

Diet is so important! Where possible eat organic. We have enough chemicals and pesticides and processed foods to deal with. Just use your common sense and eat real all natural foods just as Mother Nature intended. Instead of that candy bar for quick energy, eat a piece of fruit instead.

Fasting is still a valid therapy for detoxing. When you eat, the body spends many hours processing the food through digestion, nourishing the cells and elimination. When you stop eating and drink a lot of fluids, the body can then concentrate on eliminating toxins and healing the body. Fasting can be 1 to 3 days or as much as 10 days if done properly and under the care of a licensed practitioner. Also a visit to a licensed nutritionist can help you with vitamin and herbal supplement selection that suit your particular needs.

You can also get spa detox footbaths or detox foot patches. These are awesome because they draw toxins out through your feet. I personally know what these detox baths can do. You would be amazed as to how mucked up the water looks after 30 minutes. The color the water turns is directly related to where you are detoxing from such as the gallbladder, liver, lymphatic system etc.

Our current environment calls for taking action in caring for our bodies. Detoxing is a great way to alleviate toxic build up. You’ll feel great and have energy to spare.

Detox for vitality is the name of the game. I hope this helps.

Detox! Or Lose Your Job!

During a job interview, have you ever been asked to piss for your new employer? New applicants for many of the Fortune 500 corporations are now being forced to take a drug test. In fact, 15 million will be tested this year. Drug byproducts can be detected in urine, blood, hair, external residue, and even perspiration! Drugs aren’t the only things they test for; employers are using urinalysis to test women for pregnancy. Pregnant women are getting laid off or denied employment after taking such a test. Parents are spying on their children. The DOD Directive requires the military to screen all active duty members annually. If you don’t want to be a victim of the drug war, this text will help you. If you are well known, this text may protect your reputation. I strongly recommended that drug users (pot smokers in particular) read this.

Detection times vary depending on analytical method used, drug metabolism, tolerance, patient’s condition, fluid intake and method and frequency of ingestion.

Other factors determining degree of intoxication include metabolism, tolerance, frequency of intake, fluid intake, amount of marijuana, potency of marijuana, and length of time you’ve been a user. If you use marijuana on rare occasions, your urine may be clean of metabolites in less than a week. There is a common and strange phenomena that occurs with chronic users. You would expect a chronic user to have the longest detection time and the smallest chance of passing. This is not always the case. A chronic user with a high tolerance will eliminate drugs quicker than an occasional user. Chronic users have tested negative after a week long binge. Lipid tissue also makes a huge difference. Skinny users not only have a faster metabolism (usually), but also lack storage for THC metabolites. Fat will cause a lag in excretion pattern, and lead to a longer detection time. You should now be able to understand why an individuals detection time for THC is so unpredictable.

Positive (defined): 50 nanograms of THC metabolites per milliliter defines a “presumptive positive” by NIDA certified labs. This value was originally 20 ng/mL, but too many false positives resulted. So the level was raised to 100 ng/mL to reduce false positives. As of January 1995, the threshold was lowered back down to 50 ng/mL because drinking water would easily bring a positive below 100 ng. Be aware that these cutoffs are not universally consistent.

Drink at least eight hefty glasses of fluid (preferably water) just prior to the test. Many people start drinking water several days before the test; which is useless. Water does NOT clean any THC metabolites out of your system because THC is not water soluble. Water only dilutes urine temporarily. Do not over do it; you can get water intoxication. People can actually overdose and even die from water intoxication. It’s very hard to do, and you’ll vomit before anything gets serious.

Eating red meat will boost creatinine levels. If you eat a lot of red meat for the 3 days prior to the test, your creatinine level will be normal, and the lab won’t know that you’ve diluted your urine sample.

Can Detox Tea Relieve Stress?

What effects do today’s toxic pollutants and impurities have on the body? It becomes sluggish, fatigued, over stressed and defenseless against today’s disease. Environmental toxins hidden in our air, food and water are also hiding in us.

Is your body sending out warning signals? Taking health care into your own hands can be as complex as the intricacy of your own system. Your body sends out warning signals to tell you when it is weakened, over stressed, tired and sluggish. These warnings should not be taken lightly, your body is slowing down and needs help. Your body needs to work at its fullest potential without unneeded stress.

In today’s stress-oriented, industrialized world, the environment takes a heavy toll on our bodies. Pollutants in the air, in our food and in our water build up in our tissues. Sometimes we need to give our bodies a chance to clean out, to detoxify. In Ayurvedic tradition, this is done by using diet, exercise and herbs to rebalance the body’s generative and eliminative forces. The blend of detox herbs used in the formula is mild but effective and based on Ayurvedic principles. Herbal ingredients included are Ginger, Dandelion and Burdock which are known for their cleansing effect on the body. Drinking Detox Tea can be an important part of re-balancing and renewing body and mind.

The body does most of its detoxifying at night while the body is at rest so by taking Detox Tea in the morning, the body can continue its cleansing process throughout the day for a more consistent and complete cleanse.

Some signs of an overtaxed Liver are PMS, headaches, indigestion, hayfever, acne, bloat, Hepatitis, boils, carbuncles, fertility concerns, digestive disturbances, immune deficiency, chronic debilitating diseases, nervous system conditions, gall bladder concerns, kidney concerns, menstruation concerns, endometriosis, poor fat and protein digestion, fatigue or chronic fatigue syndrome. Obstruction of liver energy can cause intense feelings of frustration, rage, anger, and these emotions in turn further disrupt liver energy and suppress liver function, in a vicious self destructive cycle.

Most ingredients in Detox teas are 100% herbal and these Detox Teas and Capsules have been known for their cleansing and detoxifying qualities. We urge you to gather more information on Detox Teas and find out how detox tea can benefit you!

Acid Reflux: In Babies and Children

January 16, 2013 by

Actually, the last folks to have lifestyle issues as a cause for Acid Reflux are babies.  .

Surprisingly, acid reflux in infants occurs quite often. Over half of babies experience acid reflux within the first three months of their life.  Typically, symptoms that can be seen are spitting, vomiting, coughing, irritability, discomfort when they feed and the presence of blood in the feces.  The infant is often cranky and cries at the slightest discomfort, as it is unable, unlike us, to articulate what is happening.

We often call this as Colic. Rings a bell?

While medications exist, that may be given to babies at ages greater than six weeks, doctors often discourage the use of these, for  patients so small, with  such limited experience of the world, and recommend some other solutions.

Special pillows against which   their heads can be propped turn out to be an excellent method to stop acid reflux in babies. . You can get these pillows at stores selling baby items.

Dairy products tend to be one of the items that can cause acid reflux in babies. Different babies have differently developed digestions and one must try out various things, before zeroing in on a comfortable growing diet for a baby.  Sometimes, the density of milk formula that works for one infant may not work for another. It is advisable then to consult the pediatrician who has been observing the baby since birth and knows its genetic history and birth circumstances.

All of us humans have a nerve called the Vagus nerve that runs close to the Esophageal Sphincter.  This nerve often triggers “throwing up”  and other traumatic events. Sometimes, chiropractic treatments are successful in a given baby’s situation, and bring relief.

Another great solution is  drinking  of liquid calcium. The creamy texture of the liquid calcium allows your child to heal at its own pace.

Sometimes, babies start spitting up food,  and turns out, that it could be  a way of indicating a developing acid reflux situation. One needs to be very observant and careful at this point, as prolonged spitting up, often leads to sleep apnea in babies, or what may be described as sudden breathing stoppage in babies.  This aspect of acid reflux in babies can lead to fatal results, and it is then advisable to consult a pediatrician at the earliest sign of this disease in babies.

Some “lifestyle” things to follow in case of babies are elevating the head of the baby’s crib, holding the baby upright for 30 minutes after a feeding and rubbing its back.. What also may work well is thickening the bottle feedings with cereal (do not do this without a doctor’s supervision), changing feeding schedules, and trying solid food (with your doctor’s approval).

At the end of the day, one tries to avoid medications like Zantac for such little children.
